Top 3 Must Have Skill Sets:
  • MUST HAVE PhD with 3+ years of research experience in in vitro cell model development and functional characterization
  • Demonstrated ability to design and lead human stem cell/iPSC studies with a focus on the generation of human cell models relevant for drug development and/or translational medicine

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, execution, and interpretation of in vitro model studies focused on both the development of models and functional assays supporting drug safety assessment.
  • Play a hands-on role in the conduct of stem cell/iPSC research, ‘omic profiling, biomarker and molecular biology centered studies
  • Provide leadership in the area of establishing and troubleshooting new techniques and technologies in cell and molecular toxicology research
  • Contribute to defining the overall strategy and goals for the application of stem cell-based approaches in drug safety assessment
  • Develop internal and external collaborations in the area of human stem cells and tissue engineering to provide innovative solutions for group goals and vision
  • Provide mentorship for research assistants and postdoctoral research fellows required to lead stem cell/iPSC, genome editing and molecular characterization studies
  • Represent translational systems biology group internally and externally through presentations, publications, networks, collaborations and conferences to promote approaches
  • Survey the literature and conferences for discoveries and findings from the broader stem cell biology and tissue engineering community.
  • Integrate such findings into study opportunities and considerations internally

  • The Translational Systems Biology (TSB) Group within the Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences (CBSS) department at Amgen Cambridge is committed to bringing safe and transformative medicines to patients.
  • Our mission is to ensure that both the drugs and drug targets we develop are safe and that side effects are minimized or eliminated.
  • To achieve this, we are applying a variety of human in vitro approaches and ‘omics technologies to elucidate mechanisms leading to drug safety issues and develop models and assays that can be safety predictive.
  • We are seeking a highly committed contract scientist to join our Cellular and Molecular Biology team at TSB group.
  • We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong expertise in human stem cells and in vitro systems.
  • The successful candidate will take on responsibilities to support lab activities and play a hands-on role using a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques to investigate the safety of potential therapeutics or target interventions.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific experience
OR
Master’s degree and 4 years of scientific experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD with 3+ years of research experience in in vitro cell model development and functional characterization
  • Demonstrated ability to design and lead human stem cell/iPSC studies with a focus on the generation of human cell models relevant for drug development and/or translational medicine
  • Expertise in multiple cell and molecular biology approaches with emphasis on those pertinent to the isolation, characterization and differentiation of human stem cells as well as iPSCs and genome editing technologies (e.g. CRISPR/Cas9) applied in the context of stem cells
  • Proficiency with a variety of other molecular and cellular biology techniques including human genetics, ‘omics technologies and ideally some expertise in computational biology
  • Comfort in working in a highly interactive and vibrant environment and a passion for teamwork Strong publication track record in top tier journals
