Summary of the Role
Join Needed Respite Care as a Respite Care Worker supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities. This hands-on role provides supervision, assistance with daily living skills, and engagement in meaningful activities while offering families trusted respite support. Schedules are flexible, and assignments are based on your availability and preferred service areas.
Key Responsibilities
Assist individuals with self-help and daily living skills, including feeding, toileting, dressing, and hygiene
Engage clients in age-appropriate and preferred activities such as games, reading, outdoor walks, and creative play
Maintain the client’s established daily routines and support consistency
Ensure client safety, supervision, and well-being at all times
Support behavior challenges as needed, including redirection and de-escalation
Communicate effectively with families and agency staff regarding client needs and progress
Qualifications
Top Skills (Must-Haves):
Experience working with children or adults with developmental disabilities
Ability to provide compassionate, patient, and reliable care
Strong communication and observation skills
Required Experience & Skills:
High school diploma/GED and at least 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities (autism or related developmental disabilities) OR
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related humanities field
Ability to meet training and agency compliance requirements
Valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance
Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance (Live Scan)
Preferred:
Spanish-speaking ability
Experience as a caregiver, respite worker, school aide, paraeducator, or ABA support staff
Familiarity with Regional Center–supported services
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Provide in-home or community-based supervision and support
Assist with daily routines and self-care activities
Engage clients in structured and unstructured activities
Monitor safety and respond appropriately to behavioral needs
Document basic observations and follow agency guidelines
Education
High school diploma/GED required
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred
