Day to Day Responsibilities:            
Perform experiments to evaluate pharmaceutical properties including solubility and stability of small molecule drug candidates Perform experiments to prepare and characterize salts and polymorphs of small molecule drug candidates Contemporaneously record all data in electronic lab notebook Communicate findings to management and team members, discuss, design, and plan subsequent experiments
 
Summary:
Proficiency operating and troubleshooting HPLC instruments. Hands-on experience performing solid-state characterizations using DSC, TGA, and XRPD. A strong conceptual grasp of pharmaceutics, general, and analytical chemistry is essential. M-F normal working hours exclusive in lab or data analysis. The Synthetics Enabling Technologies group of the Pre-Pivotal Drug Product Technologies department of Amgen at Cambridge, MA is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and team-oriented scientist for the position of Senior Associate. The Synthetics Enabling Technologies group is a develop ability assessment function, profiling and staging molecules in collaboration with Discovery Research and identifying strategies for their pharmaceutical development. The position will involve conducting experiments to evaluate pharmaceutical properties including solubility, stability, and crystallinity of small molecule drug candidates, and performing solid-state characterization for salt and polymorph selection of clinical candidates. The qualified candidate will plan and perform laboratory experiments, collect and analyze data, maintain laboratory notebooks, and draft reports.
 
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of experience or Master’s degree with at least 2 years of industry experience in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy, Chemistry or related field.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree with 3 or more years or Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of industrial experience in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy, Chemistry or related field.
  • Proficiency operating and troubleshooting HPLC instruments; working knowledge of Waters’ Empower chromatography data system are essential.
  • Theoretical understanding and hands-on experience performing preformulation solid-state characterization using DSC, TGA, XRPD, and microscopy are required
  • Computer competency and experience, particularly with Microsoft Excel and other data analysis software, are essential
  • A strong conceptual grasp of pharmaceutics, general, and analytical chemistry is essential
  • Abilities to take initiative, work independently, and be flexible in responsibilities are strongly desired.
  • Good oral and written communication skills for timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of scientific results in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, team-based environment are strongly desired
