Role Purpose:
  • We are currently searching for a Senior Program Associate, Science Education, for the Amgen Foundation located in Thousand Oaks, California.
  • This person will play a key role on our team, taking the lead in supporting Foundation leadership across the program portfolio, including the development and management of key Foundation initiatives and partnerships as well as ongoing special projects.
  • This will include support for the advancement of Foundation priorities and goals with respect to our philanthropic impact and profile, including through assistance with program-related administration and research, stakeholder engagement and management, collaboration with relevant networks, and communications, fundraising, and strategy.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Work with Foundation leadership to support and manage projects related to the Amgen Foundation’s science education goals and overall program portfolio
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to advance the Amgen Scholars Program and the engagement of program alumni across the world
  • Become an expert on Foundation programs and operations, applicable processes and intended outcomes to best support and inform program evolution and priority workstreams
  • Participate in strategy development of program initiatives and special projects
  • Create, manage and deepen relationships with key grantees, stakeholders and organizations, and represent the Foundation in relevant settings
  • Research, monitor and assess grant proposals and reports along with relevant evaluations
  • Identify, assess and report on opportunities, trends and metrics relevant to the Foundation in priority communities and regions
  • Support the development of Requests for Proposals for applicable Foundation programs, and effectively engage with organizations during this process
  • Effectively communicate with external grantees and key internal partners with a focus on data-based decision making, continuous improvement and delivering results
  • Lead the preparation of documents and presentations for major internal meetings
  • Work with key stakeholders, including grantees, to identify and support communication strategies and tactics aligned with Foundation programs and objectives
  • Develop and manage internal processes to enhance global coordination and alignment of global signature program efforts including partnering with US and global Corporate Affairs leads
  • Act as team lead on special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Science, Education, or related field and a minimum of two years relevant experience (OR)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or related field and a minimum of four years relevant experience
  • Proven success and experience supporting and managing K-12 and/or higher education science education programs for a foundation, nonprofit or philanthropic organization
  • Strong work ethic in addition to being self-motivated and driven
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, follow through on assignments, and take ownership of work and projects
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and experience leading and applying learnings to strengthen desired outcomes
  • Ability to deal with rapidly changing priorities, and to interact with all levels of management and external partners
  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • Ability to navigate a challenging, fast-paced and dynamic environment

Other Qualifications:
  • Foundation/Philanthropy experience, particularly in a corporate setting, a significant plus
  • Experience with assessment and evaluation in education
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Technologically savvy and highly skilled in MS Office Suite including presentation software and managing website content
  • Experience with higher education programs, particularly those focused on science-focused college and advanced degree students, in the U.S.; international settings desired
  • Experience supporting conferences and/or special events to engage program beneficiaries and other stakeholders
  • Commitment to the Foundation mission and Amgen values
