Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Organize and track the data-management maturity assessments across labs and lab instruments.
  • Interact with the lab science community to schedule and organize data assessments.
  • Conduct and document interviews with lab scientists and lab leaders to understand current data management processes, storage space usage, storage growth needs and help design remediation approaches.
  • Interact with the technical team to plan and track the execution of data-management remediation tasks.
  • Communicate with the broader team to communicate workstream status and issues.
  • Formally document business and IT processes as determined by the project.

Summary:
Amgen is seeking a Principal IS Business Analyst to join the Enterprise Benchtop Services team within the multi-site Research Informatics organization. The IS business analyst will support the Lab Data Management project as being delivered by the Enterprise Benchtop Services team. The project objectives are to ensure raw instrument data is managed across its lifecycle including backup for data protection, archive for long-term preservation, and access control for compliance.

This position will support the Lab Data Management project with business analysis and project management tasks. The primary role will be to run the data-management maturity assessment process across a large set of labs at Amgen facilities. The process will involve managing a data-maturity assessment process, conducting and documenting lab assessment interviews, creating remediation plans, and tracking progress on assessments and data-management remediation tasks. A background knowledge of lab operations and lab instruments will be useful in this role but not required. The role will also be tasked with generating documentation for business process and IT administrative procedures. Good written skills will be required.

The position will be based in Thousand Oaks California with the expectation that multi-site communication will occur by phone within reasonable Pacific time-zone business hours. Data-maturity assessments will occur with lab scientists and/or lab owners in person or by phone in Thousand Oaks CA, San Francisco CA, and Cambridge MA.

  • The Enterprise Benchtop Services (EBS) is a multi-site team supporting Amgen’s Research and Operations business areas deploying laboratory information systems and instrument controllers to meet the needs of Amgen’s laboratory operations and scientists.
  • EBS daily activities include deploying laboratory systems, responding to end-user requests, maintaining regulatory compliance, keeping lab systems up-to-date, and managing data protection, backup, and archive solutions.
  • Our team works directly with both business users and Amgen’s shared infrastructure team of systems, network and database architects in order to provide technical solutions for our clients.
