Day to Day Responsibilities:            
  • Receiving, acknowledging to external company, entering information and tracking the status of each opportunity in the licensing database
  • Coordinating the receipt, acknowledgement, and triage of licensing opportunities received through an online submission web form
  • Acting as a point of contact for staff requiring licensing database training or licensing database trouble shooting
Summary:
Candidate will use scientific knowledge and skills to assist the Business Development organization, especially External R&D (prospectors), in prescreening, accessing and processing licensing opportunities from external companies and other sources. In addition, the candidate will also be responsible for coordinating and supporting projects for the Business Development Operations team. This role will primarily support the External R&D product team as follows:
 
Daily responsibilities include:
  • Applying scientific knowledge to assess and characterize incoming product and technology licensing opportunities and then routing to the appropriate prospector for review
  • Adding value by generating, summarizing and analyzing additional data from external sources as required to help make data based decisions
  • Coordinating input and feedback from Amgen staff in other functions, including research, development, commercial, legal and finance, as needed
  • Ensuring appropriate and timely follow-up with outside companies and institutions in coordination with team members, including both requesting additional information and providing outcome decision of internal evaluation
  • Supporting prospectors with generating, assembling, and entering into the licensing database the internal opportunity review agenda, documents and meeting minutes (xLET process)
  • Coordinating the receipt, acknowledgement, and triage of licensing opportunities received through an online submission webform
  • Triaging incoming non-licensing requests appropriately
  • Coordinating Triage meetings: schedule, prepare agenda, facilitate meeting, generate minutes, handle all follow up and ensure each new opportunity transitions properly
  • Partnering with business development staff to enhance business processes and identify areas for process improvement and standardization
  • Conducting phone calls with companies, universities, and consultants asking for updates, presenting a scientific overview of new opportunities, or requesting information about the internal evaluation process and general areas of interest
  • Supporting IS database enhancements and additional department projects as needed
 
Basic Qualifications:
B.S. in Science, Healthcare, Biological Science or equivalent combination of relevant educational and professional experience. M.S. or Ph.D. preferred, MBA an asset.
 
Experience:
  • Typically 2 to 5 years in a Medical/Scientific Research or Development environment including life sciences research experience
  • Typically 1 to 3 years pharmaceutical/biotechnology or healthcare experience
  • Proficiency with information retrieval from Internet, business, clinical, scientific, and healthcare resources essential
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong scientific knowledge/academic background
  • Advanced scientific data analysis and interpretation skills for decision-making and problem solving Strong interpersonal and communication skills a must including oral, written and listening
  • Strong customer focus and service oriented
  • Project management skills and proficiency in databases utilization, data entry and MS Office
  • Ability to search and retrieve information from specialized proprietary databases, Internet and other external information sources
  • Ability to work effectively both in teams and individually
