EH&S Manager
Location: Onsite - West Greenwich, RI
Employment Type: Contingent Worker (Contract, W2)
Contract Length: 12 months (possible extension)
Compensation: $76/$88 per hour (based on experience)
Summary of the Role
Serve as the on-site construction safety expert at a large biopharma leader’s Rhode Island facility. Lead engagement, guidance, and collaboration with project teams to implement and maintain effective construction safety programs. Drive compliance, hazard identification, and safe work practices throughout active construction operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the on-site resource for the construction safety program, supporting project teams and trade partners
- Develop comprehensive project safety plans including logistics, emergency response, permits, and high-risk work controls
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, owner standards, and contractual safety requirements
- Conduct field inspections and audits before and during construction activities
- Report safety performance, corrective actions, leading indicators, and emerging risks to project leadership
- Support additional EHS department safety programs and projects as needed
- Partner with owners, project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to ensure safe construction operations
- Integrate safety practices into pre-task planning and daily routines
- Lead hazard analyses, validate controls, permits, and ensure competent-person coverage
- Investigate incidents and near-misses; implement corrective measures
Required Experience & Skills
- Advanced expertise in several of the following: construction safety management, subcontractor and trade-partner safety, cranes/rigging/critical lifts, excavation/trenching/underground utilities, job hazard analysis, safety culture development
- Strong background in utilities, power, and distribution (transferable skills)
- Ability to provide technical safety guidance in complex construction environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of commercial and industrial construction operations, including multi-employer sites
- Ability to partner with and effectively influence staff and management
- Knowledge of OSHA construction standards and federal, state, and local construction safety regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction safety principles, risk-control methods, and practical field application
- Strong communication, presentation, program-development, and project management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related computer software

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide on-site safety support for project teams and partners
- Develop and implement project safety plans
- Ensure OSHA and owner safety compliance during construction
- Perform field inspections and audits
- Report safety issues and performance metrics
- Assist with other EHS safety programs
Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate degree
- Master’s degree and 2 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience
- Associate’s degree and 8 years of experience
- High school diploma / GED and 10 years of experience
